1Who We Are

Speak Up Board (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Speak Up Board app and website at speakupboard.com and app.speakupboard.com. Speak Up Board is an educational, picture-based communication and learning app that helps children build communication skills, vocabulary, and language through picture boards, games, and learning activities.

By using Speak Up Board, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. Please read it carefully, along with our Terms of Service.

2Information We Collect

Information you give us

• Parent or guardian account details from Google sign-in, such as your name and email address.
• Child profile details, such as an optional first name or nickname.
• Board personalization, such as your child’s buddy (skin tone and boy or girl), plus family members and helpers you add to the board, with optional names.
• App settings and preferences you choose for each child profile.

Information collected automatically

• Usage information, such as which activities and games your child completes.
• Progress, scores, and skill badges for learning activities.
• Device type and browser information, used for compatibility.
• A random device identifier, used to sync your family’s profiles across your devices.
• Sign-in information when you sign in with Google.

Information we do not collect

• We do not collect a child’s full name.
• We do not collect photos or images of children.
• We do not collect voice recordings.
• We do not collect location data.
• We do not collect payment card details directly. Purchases are handled by our payment providers, such as Squarespace and Google Play.

3How We Use Information

We use information to

• Create and manage parent accounts and child profiles.
• Save and sync your child’s learning progress across your devices.
• Personalize the app based on your settings.
• Send account-related messages, such as sign-in verification.
• Improve the app and develop new features.
• Comply with legal obligations.

We never use information to

• Show advertisements to you or your child.
• Sell your data to anyone.
• Track your child’s activity across other websites or apps.
• Build advertising profiles.

4Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

Speak Up Board takes children’s privacy extremely seriously. We comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws.

• A parent or guardian must create the account. Children do not create accounts themselves.
• We collect only the minimum information needed to provide our services.
• We do not share children’s personal information with third parties for commercial purposes.
• Parents can review, update, or delete their child’s information at any time by contacting us at support@speakupboard.com.
• We never require a child to share more information than is reasonably needed to take part.

5How We Protect Your Data

We use trusted, industry-standard infrastructure from Google Cloud and Firebase to keep your family’s information safe:

• All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.
• Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication, so we never see or store your password.
• Account and child profile data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore under your unique account ID.
• Each family’s data is kept separate. No family can access another family’s data.
• Profile data saved on your device is encrypted.

6Service Providers

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers that help us run Speak Up Board, and only as needed:

• Google Firebase: sign-in, database, and storage services.
• Google Cloud: hosting and running the app.
• Cloudflare: delivering the app’s and website’s pictures, sounds, and videos.
• Squarespace: hosting our website and processing website store payments.
• Google Play and other payment providers: processing in-app purchases and subscriptions.
• Legal requirements: if required by law, court order, or a government authority.

These providers are industry-standard platforms with their own privacy and security programs.

7Your Rights & Choices

As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we have about you and your child.
• Correct any inaccurate information.
• Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
• Withdraw consent for data processing.
• Receive a copy of your data.

To use any of these rights, email us at support@speakupboard.com. We will respond within 30 days.

8Data Retention

We keep your account and child profile data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data, including child profiles and progress, will be permanently deleted within 30 days.

9Cookies & Tracking

In the app

The app uses only what it needs to keep you signed in and working smoothly:

• Firebase Authentication session data, to keep you signed in.
• Your browser’s or device’s local storage, for app settings, performance, and syncing between devices.

The app does not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, advertising cookies, or any other advertising or third-party tracking technology.

On our website

Our website is hosted by Squarespace, which may set cookies needed to run the site and the store, as described in Squarespace’s own privacy policy. We do not add advertising cookies or tracking pixels to our website.

10Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or with a clear notice in the app, and the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change.
